What Does AI Visibility Cost for a Small Business?

Published

Published market rates put a small business on a basic generative engine optimization program at $1,500 to $5,000 a month. RevivedLocal charges $5 for a one-time AI Visibility Monitor run, $99 a month per location to keep it running, $399 a month for the SEO Crew that does the fixing as well as the measuring, and $699 a month plus a $500 setup for Full Service SEO, which adds your listings.

Those numbers are far apart because they are not buying the same amount of work. Before you compare any two prices in this field, it helps to know which of three jobs each one covers.

The three jobs you are actually paying for

Measuring. Someone asks the AI assistants about your business, records the answers word for word with a date on each, checks whether a machine can read the facts on your own website, and reviews your Google Business Profile. This is the cheap part, and it is the part you should never skip, because everything after it is guesswork without it.

Fixing your own facts. Rewriting vague page copy so a parser can lift your services, hours, and city out of it. Correcting a disconnected phone number on an old listing. Making your website, your Google Business Profile, and your directory entries agree with each other. Much of this is labor on things you already own, which means you can do it yourself if you have the time.

Ongoing content and repair. New pages that answer the questions your customers ask, page titles, descriptions and internal links kept current, and re-measurement often enough to see a trend rather than a snapshot. This is where retainers live, because it never finishes.

A price only means something once you know which of the three it includes. The market ranges below mostly cover all three. A $5 run covers the first one.

What the market charges

WebFX's pricing guide, last updated May 26, 2026, puts a small business on a basic strategy at $1,500 to $5,000 per month, full-service agency retainers at $1,500 to $50,000+ per month, and project work at $5,000 to $50,000. It lists consultants at $50 to $300 an hour, do-it-yourself tools at $10 to $250+ a month, and AI visibility tracking software at $50 to $1,000+ a month.

Digital Elevator's guide, last updated July 23, 2026, breaks the same market into tiers: $150 to $2,000 for freelance project work, $500 to $2,500 a month for productized packages, $2,000 to $8,000 a month for mid-market retainers, and $10,000 to $30,000+ a month for enterprise programs. Its summary sentence is that credible retainers for a mid-market business land in the $2,000 to $10,000 per month range.

Both are agency-published, both are ranges rather than one company's own price, and both are quoted here with their dates so you can go read them yourself. They are useful for one thing: knowing what you will hear if you call around.

What this costs if you do it yourself

Some of the work has no price at all, and you should know that before anyone quotes you for it.

A Business Profile on Google is free. Google's own help documentation says you can manage how your business shows up on Maps and Search at no charge: create or claim the profile, verify it, then keep the hours, address, phone number, and services correct. For a local business that profile is the single most-read source of your facts, and correcting it costs an afternoon.

There is also nothing to buy from Google for AI features. Google Search Central states plainly that "There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary", and that "You don't need to create new machine readable files, AI text files, or markup to appear in these features." A page needs to be indexed and eligible to be shown with a snippet. That is the requirement.

So the honest version of the do-it-yourself budget is: $0 in fees, plus whatever your own hours are worth, plus a tracking tool if you want the measuring automated. What you cannot get for free is the record over time, which is the thing that tells you whether any of it worked.

What RevivedLocal charges

Our prices are on the site, in public, and they are these:

  • One AI Visibility Monitor run: $5. Self-serve from the top of the homepage. A second run is included 30 days later so you can see what moved.
  • AI Visibility Monitor: $99 a month per location. A fresh run every month: live AI answers captured and quoted, a readability score of your site, and Google Business Profile health.
  • SEO Crew AI Agents: $399 a month. The flagship, and the Monitor is included. Six agents research, write, publish, repair, audit, and measure every week, on your existing website, with a person approving every change before it goes live.
  • Full Service SEO: $699 a month, plus a $500 one-time setup. The SEO Crew and the Monitor, plus your listings on Google, Yelp, Bing, Apple and the directories, fixed and kept accurate by a person. The setup covers the first month's cleanup: claiming and verifying profiles, merging duplicates, and the aggregator submissions. What is included.
  • Website from one of five templates: $500 one-time, plus $50 a month. Covers hosting and a monthly Google Analytics report. A custom website is quoted per project.

Month to month, cancel anytime. Annual prepay gets two months free. The full grid is on the pricing section of the homepage.

Set against the ranges above, the gap is scope, not a discount. The $5 run and the $99 plan buy measuring only: they tell you what the assistants said and what is unreadable on your site, and then you decide what to do about it. The $399 Crew is the plan that includes the ongoing work, and it is deliberately built to run on the website you already have, which removes the rebuild that usually sits in front of a retainer. Full Service SEO adds the part the Crew does not touch, your listings off the site, with a person doing that work. $99 is the measurement plan, and we say so.

How to tell which one you need

  • You have never checked. Start with the $5 run. You get the actual answers and a list of what is fixable, which is enough to decide whether to spend anything else.
  • You know your facts are wrong in AI answers. The fix is upstream, in the sources the assistants read, and much of it is free labor. Our answer on why ChatGPT may not know your business walks through those inputs.
  • The facts are fine and nothing is changing. That is usually a content and corroboration problem, which is ongoing work: either your own hours every week, or the SEO Crew.
  • Your website is the blocker. If your key facts live inside images, a widget, or a script a crawler will not run, no amount of monitoring fixes it. That is when a build makes sense, and only then. The five templates ship with structured data, robots.txt, sitemap, and llms.txt.

What no budget buys

A spot in an AI answer. Not at $5, not at $30,000 a month. Google's documentation says there is no special optimization and no separate path into AI features, and there is no version of the checkout page where a business pays to be recommended by ChatGPT. Anyone quoting you a price for placement is selling something they do not control.

What money buys here is narrower and checkable: your own facts made readable and consistent, your Google Business Profile correct, questions your customers ask answered publicly on your own site, and a dated record of what the assistants actually said. We measure and report those. We do not promise the answer.

Common questions

How much does AI visibility cost for a small business?

Agency guides published in 2026 put a basic program at $1,500 to $5,000 a month, with mid-market retainers higher. RevivedLocal charges $5 for a single AI Visibility Monitor run, $99 a month per location for monthly measurement, and $399 a month for the SEO Crew, which includes the Monitor and the ongoing work. Full Service SEO, which adds your listings on Google, Yelp, Bing, Apple and the directories, is $699 a month plus a $500 one-time setup.

Can I do any of this for free?

Yes, a real part of it. A Google Business Profile costs nothing to create, claim, and correct, and Google states there are no additional requirements or special files needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. What free effort does not give you is a dated record of what the assistants say, which is the only way to tell whether your changes helped.

Why is RevivedLocal cheaper than the ranges agencies publish?

Because the tiers buy different amounts of work. Our $5 and $99 plans buy measurement, not a full program, and we say so. The $399 Crew includes ongoing content and repair, and it runs on your existing website, so there is no rebuild in front of it. Full Service SEO adds the listings work, done by a person, for $699 a month plus a $500 setup.

What does the $5 run include?

One AI Visibility Monitor run on your business: what the AI assistants said about you, captured and quoted with the assistant and date on each answer, a 0 to 100 readability score of your own website check by check, and a Google Business Profile review. A second run 30 days later is included.

Do I need a new website first?

Usually no. Most sites can be made readable with copy and markup changes. A rebuild is worth it when the facts are locked inside images, video, or a script a crawler will not run. A template build is $500 one-time plus $50 a month for hosting and a monthly Google Analytics report.

Does a bigger budget get my business recommended by AI?

No. Nobody sells placement in an AI answer, and Google's own documentation says there is no special optimization or paid path into its AI features. Budget buys readable facts, accurate listings, published answers, and measurement. The answer itself stays outside anyone's control.
